ActiveSync Toggle / Q&A

Are you ever going to add an option to allow ActiveSync Toggle to run from the System Tray?
No. ActiveSync Toggle was designed so that the ActiveSync process could not only be removed from memory (therefore freeing up memory) but also from the System Tray (therefore freeing up clutter). We feel that allowing ActiveSync Toggle to run from the System Tray would only defeat it's purpose.

Does ActiveSync Toggle just 'kill' the ActiveSync Process?
No! It takes a far gentler approach as killing processes should always be a last resort. It will ask ActiveSync to close, but does not make any attempt to close it itself. This is safer than 'killing' the ActiveSync process and is guaranteed to leave your Windows session in a stable state. In-fact from the feedback that we have received, it sometimes appears to leave your Windows session in an even more stable state than when ActiveSync was running!

Why is the "Don't disable if PDA is connected" option greyed out?
This will only happen under NT4 due to the fact that this feature uses certain functions that are not supported under this Operating System. Whilst substitutes can be used, unless the demand is there, this feature will not be enabled under NT4.

Does ActiveSync Toggle uninstall ActiveSync from my PC?
No... It only loads or unloads the program from memory and removes one registry entry that automatically starts ActiveSync when Windows starts.

Are there any limitations when using ActiveSync Toggle?
Only one that we have seen so far. Before you disable ActiveSync you must switch off your PDA or disconnect it from your PC. This is, unfortunately, a problem with ActiveSync itself and is out of ours hands.
Update: ActiveSync Toggle version 1.0.4.0 (and newer) no longer requires the PDA to be switched off or disconnected before disabling ActiveSync.

What Versions of ActiveSync does it work with?
It has been tested with ActiveSync Version 3.5 and upwards, although we will endeavour to re-test it as and when new versions of ActiveSync are released. If you have an older version of ActiveSync and are experiencing problems, please notify us here and we will see if we can help.

How do I uninstall ActiveSync Toggle?
  1) Delete the ActiveSyncToggle.exe file.
  2) Delete the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Micrologics\ActiveSync Toggle" registry key.
Please note: If you are inexperienced in using a Registry Editor, then we would recommend leaving the second option (or find someone who will be able todo it for you).

Why does ActiveSync Toggle still say ActiveSync is enabled, even though I killed it manually using the Task Manager?
The enabled state of ActiveSync is determined by the following factors :-
    1) ActiveSync System Tray Icon is loaded
    2) ActiveSync User Interface (Sync Window) is loaded
    3) ActiveSync RAPI Manager is loaded (ActiveSync Version 4 and later)
    4) ActiveSync Auto Load registry value (run) is defined
Therefore killing the process manually using Task Manager will still show it's state as enabled.
